About The Project

Why we built Incredible Years.

Why We Built It
01

Why We Built It

The Incredible Years' evidence-based parenting, child, and teacher programs lived as scattered files and links — hard to reach and harder to track. The goal was to put the entire library online as polished, on-demand video that anyone could open, on any device, anywhere.

The Perspective
02

The Perspective

We designed it from two angles at once — the learner's (watch on phone, laptop, or TV and resume exactly where you left off) and the organization's (one admin panel to upload, organize, and control every program). One platform serving both sides.

What Was Gained
03

What Was Gained

A single catalog now spans website, mobile, and TV from one backend the client fully owns — new content ships in minutes instead of weeks, reach and engagement are measurable, and there's no per-surface rebuild as the audience grows.

Built To Last
04

Built To Last

The client fully owns a documented, maintainable platform — new content and features ship in minutes, and every surface scales without a costly rebuild.

Project Snapshot

The project  at a glance.

An OTT-grade streaming stack. The team uploads and structures a programme once, and it plays back with progress intact — phone, laptop or living-room screen, the learner picks up where they left off.

The Challenge

The Incredible Years runs evidence-based training programs for parents, children, and teachers, and needed that course library to live online as polished, on-demand video rather than scattered files and links. A parent watching on a phone, a facilitator running a session on a laptop, and a family streaming to the living-room TV all expected the same catalog, the same progress, and the same crisp playback.

Our Solution

We built a single streaming backend in Python and Java that powers three connected surfaces from one source of truth. An Admin Panel lets the team upload and transcode videos, group them into structured programs, and control access  every change going live across the catalog at once. A responsive website and native iOS & Android apps give learners adaptive, OTT-grade playback with resume-where-you-left-off progress carried seamlessly from one device to the next.

Objectives

What we set out to achieve.

01

One Backend, Three Surfaces

Run the admin panel, website, and mobile apps from a single shared backend and one source of truth.

02

Resume Anywhere

Carry resume-where-you-left-off progress seamlessly across phone, laptop, and living-room TV.

03

Full Admin Control

Give the team complete control over the catalog, access, subscriptions, and analytics — no code required.

04

OTT-Grade Streaming

Deliver adaptive, buffer-free playback quality on every screen and connection speed.

05

Scale Without Rebuilds

Grow on one secure, shared backend — add features, new surfaces, and more users over time without re-architecting or starting from scratch.

How We Built It

From idea to launch.

Scroll — each step stacks as you go.

01~2 wks

Discovery & Planning

We start by mapping the catalog, the people who use it, and the way the business actually earns — then turn that into one blueprint the whole team builds against. Nothing is estimated until the scope is written down and agreed.

  • Stakeholder workshops & user interviews
  • Feature map, scope and success metrics
  • Technical architecture and delivery plan
Discovery & Planning
02~4 wks

UI/UX Design

Every surface is designed and prototyped before a line of production code is written, so the flows are argued over on screens, not in a sprint review. What you sign off is what gets built.

  • Wireframes for each screen and state
  • Clickable prototype for the core journeys
  • Design system: type, colour, components
UI/UX Design
03~6 wks

Backend + API

One shared backend serves every surface, so the admin panel, the website and the app never drift out of sync. The API is versioned from day one, which is what lets new surfaces be added later without a rewrite.

  • Unified data model & versioned REST API
  • Auth, roles, payments and media pipeline
  • Automated tests on every endpoint
Backend + API
04~8 wks

Web + Mobile Build

The website and the native iOS and Android apps are built in working increments against that backend. You see a real, usable build at the end of every sprint rather than a status report.

  • Responsive website, pixel-matched to design
  • Native-feel iOS & Android from one codebase
  • Sprint demos on real devices, every two weeks
Web + Mobile Build
05~3 wks

QA, Launch & Handover

Hardened, load-tested and shipped to the stores — then handed over properly. You leave with the keys, the documentation and a team that can run it without us.

  • Cross-device QA and load testing
  • Store submission and production rollout
  • Documentation, training and full ownership

Admin Panel

One backend, total command — the control room where every program, payment, and member is run from a single screen.

At-a-Glance Metrics

Six stat cards surface total subscriptions, expirations due this month, admin users created, last-month subscriptions, and both total and prior-month income in one pass.

Yearly Trend Charts

Three bar charts plot this year's earnings, active subscriptions, and expired subscriptions so admins can spot revenue and churn patterns month over month.

Recent Providers Table

A live table lists the most recently onboarded content providers so the team can confirm new partners are added correctly.

Streaming-First Hero

A full-width hero leads with "Enjoy top quality streaming" and sits directly above a Recently Played row, so returning learners hit resume on their last lesson before they ever touch a menu.

Rails Sorted by Audience

Popular, E-Book, Parent, Child and Teacher Program rails each scroll as cards with star ratings, letting a parent, educator or trainee land on the track meant for them in a single glance.

Four-Store Download Block

A dedicated section near the footer pushes the platform past the browser with App Store, Google Play, macOS and Windows buttons, so a series watched on the web carries on across every device on the same account.

Mobile App

The full library in your pocket — stream online, download for the road, and carry every program offline on iOS & Android.

Pick Up Where You Left Off

A Recently Played carousel surfaces each clip with its title and exact runtime so parents can resume a half-watched lesson in a single tap.

Curated Program Rows

Scrollable rows split content into Popular, E-Book, Parent, Child and Teacher Programs, with trial badges flagging which titles you can sample before subscribing.

Always-On Navigation

A persistent bottom tab bar moves you between Home, My Program, My Download and Menu while search and profile sit in reach at the top of the streaming hero.
